No need to travel to the big cities for good antiques offerings this holiday season. Here are reputable shows in a couple of small yet impressive towns.
December 5–7: Greenwich Antiques Show, Greenwich, Connecticut
www.hstg.org
Now in its 51st year, the Greenwich Antiques Show offers a well-heeled selection of antiques, including 17th- through 20th-century furniture and decorative objects. The show is held in the Greenwich Civic Center and sponsored by the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich, an organization that supports the history and historic houses of Greenwich. This year’s show includes a Gala Preview Party on Thursday, December 4th; general admission on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday costs $15. After the show, drive 5 miles to the heart of Greenwich to do some holiday shopping along tony Greenwich Avenue, where many shops cater to the high-income population of Greenwich, which is listed as one of the 100 richest communities in the country (median price for a home in the town of Greenwich is $1.7 million).
December 5–7: Overland Park Antiques Show, Overland Park, Kansas
www.willowrush.com
Twice a year, this quality show takes place in the greater Kansas City area—in July and again in December. Dealers exhibit a wide range of antiques in the Overland Park International Trade Center; admission is $6. Explore the surrounding area for a taste of small-town life at its best: Overland Park made the 2008 “Top Ten America’s Best Small Cities” list compiled by CNN and Money magazine.
