An excavator the width of the driveway and with an arm nearly as tall as our two-story house filled the backyard today, slowly digging out a perfect square pit where the new footers, foundation wall, and floor will be poured. Sadly, we had to remove a mature burning bush, which was nearly ready for fall’s first blush. Also, on an impulse, we removed a pesky crabapple tree that had outgrown its location.

They dug the trench for the footers. A cement truck poured the trench late in the afternoon. It will have the weekend to cure.
