Our 2004 showhouse, a 1,464-square-foot loft inside a 5-story former warehouse in Des Moines, Iowa, proves once again that the modern country lifestyle is a state of mind, not a zip code.

Country Home editors spent months creating a comfortable retreat that mixed the gleam of mirrors and steel with the warmth of antique barn wood and quilts. (The showhouse was part of the Designs of Downtown Showhouse ’04, which benefited the Science Center of Iowa.) They were able to add an abundance of country home décor to this former warehouse.
