Hey, Junkers,
We have so much to tell you, so I had best get started.
The Home Show tour has ended and we had a blast. One of our favorite stops was Anaheim. There’s no place quite like sunny California. We were there for 4 days and even got one day to ourselves. Ahh, the sun, the pool, and an ice-cold margarita all made for two happy junkers. We did have one small mishap however: After we returned home, we discovered that our set, which travels with us around the country, had gone missing. Ki and me without a set is like a junker at a flea market with an empty wallet. This had only happened to us once before—when we were in Philly, the convention center crew threw away our boxes thinking they were junk. Go figure. Good thing the show management team had attended our seminars and were well versed in the art of dumpster diving! We’ll keep you posted on the "Where’s Waldo" set.The 2nd annual Junk Bonanza has come and gone since we last talked. Wow! The turn-out of junkers from across the country was unbelievable. I think half of the states were represented. I guess there really are junk lovers from sea to shining sea. The Bonanza was a fast and furious junking extravaganza. The vendors were wonderful and I can’t even talk about the junk without breaking into a sweat. One word: FABULOUS! Selection, quality, and good prices to cowboy boot, we had it all. Early admission day started on Thursday and we were rolling full steam ahead until close on Saturday. Oh yes, there was a popular new addition to the event this year, the Salvage Saloon. Thanks so much to everyone who helped out and worked their junking tails off to make this event such a smashing success. See ya at the Saloon next year!
Now what about that American Junk Club? It’s something special all right. We’ve had an amazing response, and new members come on board everyday. The message boards are overflowing with good ideas, projects, tips, and secret junking hot spots across the country, not to mention very funny banter. One woman is starting a “Junk Hunk” calendar with our very own Sir Site Administrator as Mr. December. I know what you’re thinking right now; but no, I am not that woman—it’s actually someone else this time. So if you’re not a member yet, c’mon down where the junk is right and join in the fun. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Book number three is now underway. I can’t believe it—the ink hasn’t even dried on book two and here we go again. I guess it’s time to put the seat belt in the locked and ready position one more time. This time we’re moving the junk outdoors. The mission (that has already been accepted and the tape has long since disintegrated) is to create outdoor rooms with junk. As you know, we live in Minnesota and outdoor shooting can be problematic in the winter months. There were thoughts of doing a “While You Were Out” makeover on an ice-fishing house belonging to some poor unsuspecting fisherman. You know, give him some nice window coverings, a stylish cushion for his bench, and maybe some nice wall accessories. Of course the cooler of beer would have to be replaced with an ice-cold bottle of chardonnay. After careful deliberation, we thought better of that idea and decided that heading for a warmer climate would be much safer.
Country Home, as usual, has kept us on our tootsies. We finished our final leg in September of the Junking Journey with a bang at The First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. If you haven’t been to this flea market before, we highly recommend you go. There are acres upon acres of the finest stuff in Texas. The response we received was overwhelming. Everyone from the show management was so kind, wonderful, and hospitable. Thanks to everyone for all your hard work. We’ll come back soon and often. Roping cowboys couldn’t keep us away.
We also had the pleasure of shooting the next Antiquing Highway story. These stories are so much fun and this one promises to be a treasure. Where did we go? You know I can’t tell you that. Tune in next April’s issue of Country Home for all of the delicious details. Click here to see a few photos from our trip to California last year.
I guess that’s it for now, junking friends. Until next time… see you on the junk pile.
