The Plush Life: A Velvet Primer

Velvet’s soft nap is a magnet for fluff and stuff; remove it with a vacuum’s upholstery brush attachment, a lint remover, or a loop of tape. Hang wrinkled items in a steamy bathroom. Ironing can ruin some velvets; if necessary, gently steam the fabric face down on a second piece of velvet or a plush towel. Because cleaning methods vary (from machine-wash to dry-clean only), follow manufacturer instructions or consult a dry-cleaner.
