A hardworking organic garden combines flowers with tasty fruits and vegetables. Kristina King and Kerry Hardy are devoted to the following varieties:
APPLES
Semidwarf apple trees are fairly fast producers. 'Macoun' variety produces sweet, firm apples perfect for desserts. Kristina won the State of Maine Apple Pie Contest with a pie that contained Macouns.

CHARD
Not all chards are Swiss. 'Verde a Costa Bianca' is an Italian chard with sweet cream-color stems. It's especially tasty in vegetable soup.

CABBAGE
Kristina harvests 'Mammoth Red Rock' heirloom cabbage, wraps it in newspaper, and stores it in the basement where it will keep throughout winter. "It's like having a taste of summer any time of the year," she says.
