A set of $30 wood skis becomes a place to hang your hat.
Sue and Ki suggest trimming skis to 6 1/2 feet tall. Drill holes into the skis at top, middle, and bottom. Insert dowel rods and secure with wood glue (or metal glue if the skis have metal runners). Clamp together and let sit for a few days. Ski poles become hooks (sometimes the poles will come with the skis, sometimes not). Cut the poles down, then drill holes through the skis at an angle so the poles fit snugly. (If poles are hollow, insert dowels into skis and slide hollow poles over dowels.) A cast-iron Christmas tree stand is a sturdy base.
