Gather up cylindrical vases of all sizes to create one flickering arrangement of luminarias. Cut pieces of gold and ivory vellum—a slick, transparent paper found in stationery and crafts stores—to fit the vases. Wrap the outside of the vases in gold vellum, using clear tape to adhere. Download the starburst pattern, and trace and cut it from the ivory vellum. Wrap the ivory vellum over the gold and adhere with clear tape. Decorate the cutout designs with dots of gold enamel paint (available in a squeeze bottle from crafts stores), and glue bands of velvet ribbon around the tops and bottoms of the luminarias.
Matthew’s Secrets
These glass cylinders are inexpensive—a few dollars apiece—at crafts and floral supply stores. Arranged in different heights and widths, they create a dynamic display.
