Valentine’s Day calls for heart-felt sentiments, and we have some simple ideas to inspire gifts and decorations that will spread the love.
COVERED BOXES
Instead of actual playing cards, we used a computer to scan rows of cards and print them in color, then glued them to a hatbox and lid.

It doesn’t really matter if you start with the top or the sides. To finish the top, you need to get the side measurement. Measure the circumference and add 1/2”. Then measure the height of the side of the top and add 1/4” to the height measurement. Cut out a strip of paper according to these sizes. (If the box is big, you may have to piece strips of paper together to accommodate the circumference.) Glue the strip to the side, placing the strip flush with the bottom side of the top. The top of the strip will be 1/4” higher that the side of the box. Make 1/4” slits every 1/4” or so along the top (the cuts should not be lower than the top of the box). Fold the slits down onto the top of the box and glue. Cut out a circle the size of the top (again you may have to piece papers together) and glue to the top of the box.
